MYGOLFWAY REVIEW – FootJoy Quantum: An excellent blend of lightweight construction, cushioning and comfort for walking the golf course

The FootJoy Quantum 2026 golf shoe, tested by MyGolfWay.
The new FootJoy Quantum features a lightweight construction, SofFOAM cushioning and a spikeless outsole designed to provide grip across different surfaces. We put them to the test alongside golf professional Sergio González, assessing their performance both on and off the golf course.
November 3, 2026 – FootJoy has expanded its footwear range this year with the latest version of the FJ Quantum, a spikeless model that combines a athletic look with a range of features designed to enhance comfort and functionality when playing golf. Its design centres around three key elements: SofFOAM cushioning, lightweight construction and a multidimensional outsole designed to deliver traction without the need for conventional spikes.

For our test, golf professional Sergio González put the shoes through their paces at Club de Golf Barcelona, paying particular attention to fit, support, outsole performance and the overall feel when walking.
SofFOAM: cushioning takes centre stage
One of the standout features of the FJ Quantum is the incorporation of SofFOAM technology, designed to provide a soft, cushioned feel underfoot. This is particularly noticeable when walking, with a pleasant level of support that helps reduce the sensation of impact.

The OrthoLite Impression FitBed insole further contributes to this, completing the combination of materials designed to enhance the wearing experience.
And according to Sergio González, golf professional and coach at Barcelona Golf Academy, lightweight construction is another of its key strengths. He highlighted this as soon as he put them on: “The first thing you notice is that the FJ Quantum is a very lightweight and very comfortable shoe. It weighs very little”.
“As a coach and academy instructor, for everyday use they are fantastic for me. Ultimately, because they are so comfortable and weigh so little, you feel more at ease, you walk better and you don’t get that feeling of tired feet”, he said after playing the first few holes.

Precise fit and support for the foot
The FJ Quantum’s design combines an upper with reinforcements intended to keep the foot securely in place during movement. In this respect, a precise fit is important both when walking and throughout the golf swing, when footwear needs to accommodate changes in weight distribution and rotation.
Its construction also provides a greater sense of support compared with previous models from the brand, without compromising on lightweight performance. At launch, it was available with a traditional lace-up fastening, and it is now also offered with the BOA system, allowing golfers to choose according to their preferred fit.

Spikeless outsole, with highly versatile grip
The multidimensional outsole is another important feature of the FJ Quantum. Its design is intended to provide traction across different surfaces, allowing the shoes to be worn both on the course and around other areas of the club.
During the test, Sergio González was particularly positive about the shoes’ performance: “I’ve found the grip to be fantastic; I really have no complaints”.
However, ground conditions can make a difference. “Although, if I were going to use them on a soft course, where it had been raining and there was mud, I would probably choose a shoe with spikes”, he continued.
“But in normal conditions, with the favourable weather we have here, an outsole like the one on the FJ Quantum performs perfectly, practically all year round”.

The FJ Quantum features a contemporary, sporty aesthetic, with an upper combining premium waterproof leather and technical lining, backed by a one-year waterproof warranty.
Its design also aims to make the shoe suitable for use off the course, which is particularly appealing to golfers who spend many hours at the club or combine playing golf with other activities.

The professional’s verdict on the FJ Quantum
Comparing it with the FJ Fuel Sport, a shoe he has been wearing recently, Sergio González identifies differences in both construction and performance. The FJ Quantum offers additional reinforcement throughout the upper, a greater sense of fit and stability around the foot and, of course, a higher level of cushioning.
For a professional like Sergio, who spends a large part of his job day walking and working on the course, both out on the golf course and on the driving range, these aspects are particularly important.
“Until now, I had been wearing the FJ Fuel with its Stratolite EVA midsole, which is a slightly more affordable model. The FJ Quantum is still a lightweight shoe, which is ultimately what I look for. I spend many hours at the club, and with this model you avoid ending the day with really tired feet”.
And as a regular player on the Catalunya Pro Tour, he would also be happy to wear them in competition.
“Yes, I would wear them for competition too, as I’m used to wearing shoes with multi-directional traction like this one. For everyday use and competing, as soon as you put them on, you can feel that they protect your feet and adapt well to their shape. They give you confidence when making your swing, and you forget you’re even wearing them. I think it’s a brilliant, very clever design”.

“In summary, I think the FJ Quantum can be very similar to the FJ Fuel, with the difference that the Quantum provides much more reinforcement around the foot, making it considerably more stable, and, of course, you benefit from its greater cushioning. Because, ultimately, lightweight construction and cushioning are what I am looking for”, concludes Sergio González.
MYGOLFWAY CONCLUSION
The 2026 FootJoy Quantum brings together an excellent combination of comfort, cushioning and versatile traction. A shoe that stands out for its outstanding cushioned feel, lightweight construction and ability to support and adapt to the foot. It has become one of our favourite options of the season for golfers who enjoy walking the course and those who require additional softness underfoot.
