January 6, 2020 \u2013 TaylorMade Golf<\/strong> builds on its history of\u00a0metalwood\u00a0innovation and groundbreaking technologies with the all-new SIM family<\/strong>, highlighted by drivers, fairways and\u00a0hybrids.<\/p>\n

With an asymmetric sole design and\u00a0enhanced\u00a0Inertia Generator<\/strong>, SIM drivers\u00a0rely on geometry\u00a0to unlock the next frontier of performance. A\u00a0series of\u00a0shape-inspired innovations work in\u00a0unison to improve forgiveness while also increasing aerodynamics and clubhead speed at the most critical stage of the swing \u2013\u00a0the last three feet\u00a0(one\u00a0metre)\u00a0of the swing\u00a0prior to impact.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Known\u00a0as the speed generation zone,\u00a0this\u00a0is where the\u00a0most meaningful\u00a0increase of clubhead speed occurs. At the\u00a0Tour level,\u00a0players commonly accelerate from 90mph to 120mph\u00a0in\u00a0that moment of truth.\u00a0SIM drivers\u00a0are\u00a0engineered\u00a0to improve aerodynamics, and thus clubhead speed,\u00a0through this\u00a0critical\u00a0phase\u00a0of the golf swing.<\/p>\n

SHAPE IN MOTION (SIM): Advanced geometric shaping for aerodynamics, clubhead speed and forgiveness<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

SIM, SIM Max and SIM\u00a0Max-D\u00a0drivers<\/strong> feature a raised crown and sole to reduce drag and improve airflow throughout the swing. While raising the crown and sole improves aerodynamics, it typically comes with a trade-off in the form of higher CG projection. However, the SIM family of drivers counteract that with the\u00a0Inertia Generator positioned low and back\u00a0with a heavy steel weight\u00a0at the rear of the club. This design element moves the CG projection\u00a0very low, optimising\u00a0launch conditions and increasing MOI \u2013\u00a0providing additional\u00a0forgiveness\u00a0for the golfer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During aerodynamic testing, TaylorMade discovered the need to rotate\u00a0the Inertia Generator\u00a0to match the direction of airflow within the speed generation zone. The result is air that moves smoothly across the sole on the downswing and enhanced\u00a0clubhead speeds\u00a0in company tests.<\/p>\n

To put it simply, TaylorMade has designed a driver with\u00a0no tradeoffs. SIM is\u00a0fast, forgiving, promotes favorable launch conditions\u00a0and\u00a0has one of the hottest faces in golf.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“The history of driver design has been about prioritising trade-offs. You could have great launch conditions, but poor forgiveness. You\u00a0could\u00a0have great forgiveness, but at the sacrifice of distance.\u00a0You could have an aerodynamic shape, but with less than optimal launch conditions”.<\/em><\/p>\n

“But\u00a0through the\u00a0use of\u00a0multi-material technology, we\u2019ve developed a new shape that optimises\u00a0performance in all three areas. It\u2019s forgiving, fast and promotes the ideal launch conditions,” <\/em>says Tomo Bystedt<\/strong>,\u00a0TaylorMade\u2019s Senior Director of Product Creation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

An evolution of materials<\/strong><\/p>\n

TaylorMade\u2019s journey to SIM began\u00a0with the lightweight carbon composite technology the company has developed over the course of the last 15 years. The fifth-generation carbon composite material, which was refined throughout the lifespan of the popular M series, was the key to unlocking a series of new geometric opportunities for TaylorMade engineers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

By using carbon materials to construct the crown and sole paneling of SIM, SIM Max and SIM\u00a0Max-D<\/strong>, designers saved a considerable amount of weight, which was then redeployed into the flagship design feature of SIM drivers \u2013 the heavy Inertia Generator that\u2019s positioned low and back in the club.<\/p>\n

New for 2020 is an ultra-light weight chromium carbon crown with a chalk white top-line that creates contrast with the black clubface to help frame the ball at address and improve alignment.<\/p>\n

Speed Injected Twist Face<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2019, TaylorMade took Twist Face<\/strong> \u2013 the revolutionary face curvature that\u2019s designed to straighten ball flight \u2013 to the next level of performance with Speed Injected Twist Face. Exposing the false narrative that speed limits have been reached in a\u00a0metalwood, this\u00a0breakthrough\u00a0technology\u00a0allows the company to\u00a0push\u00a0ball speeds near the legal limit\u00a0for every driver in the SIM family, particularly on\u00a0off-centre hits.     Sliding Weight Technology and Loft Sleeve<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Continuing a history of adjustability and personalisation, the SIM driver features Sliding Weight Technology that allows for up to +\/- 20 yards of draw or fade bias. For even further personalisation, the 2\u00b0 Loft Sleeve allows for the adjustment of the loft, lie angle and face angle of the driver. The Loft Sleeve<\/strong> is available on all three models, while Sliding Weight Technology<\/strong> is only offered in SIM.<\/p>\n

    The SIM\u202fMax-D<\/strong>\u202fis engineered to help golfers avoid the right side of the course via\u00a0a strategically placed heel-bias internal weight\u202fand divergent topline masking, which makes the driver look more open at address helping golfers close the face at impact.\u202fThe draw-biased design promotes\u00a0the\u00a0highest\u00a0launch and offers the largest, most forgiving face in the SIM lineup.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Progressive face heights<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Using data collected during the development of\u00a0the\u00a0Twist Face<\/strong>, which shows the correlation between handicaps and mis-hit dispersion,\u00a0TaylorMade\u00a0implemented\u00a0Progressive Face Heights<\/strong> in SIM drivers.<\/p>\n

    The SIM Max has an 8% larger face than SIM, while\u00a0Max-D\u00a0has an 18% larger face.\u00a0Data shows\u00a0that the golfers most likely to gravitate towards the performance features of SIM Max or SIM\u00a0Max-D\u00a0will also benefit from the increased forgiveness of a larger face.<\/p>\n
