{"id":43297,"date":"2016-02-13T22:00:21","date_gmt":"2016-02-13T20:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mygolfway.com\/?p=43297"},"modified":"2016-02-13T23:49:23","modified_gmt":"2016-02-13T21:49:23","slug":"pgas-of-europe-gerard-piris-and-ivo-giner-winners-of-2016-fourball-championship-in-lumine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygolfway.com\/en\/pgas-of-europe-gerard-piris-and-ivo-giner-winners-of-2016-fourball-championship-in-lumine\/","title":{"rendered":"PGAs of Europe \u2013 Gerard Piris and Iv\u00f3 Giner, winners of 2016 Fourball Championship in Lumine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p6Qsjvxil7o?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>February 13, 2016 &#8211;<\/strong> The <strong>2016 Golfbreaks.com Fourball Championship<\/strong> culminated with another fine performance from <strong>PGA of Spain<\/strong> Professionals, <strong>Gerard Piris and<\/strong> <strong>Ivo Giner<\/strong> after their closing 66 was enough to claim the title and the \u20ac7,500 first prize with a -25 total (189).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe had a lot of fun out there and these three last days with my partner, he\u2019s an amazing guy \u2013 everything has been perfect,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Gerard Piris<\/strong> after the final round at <strong>Lumine Mediterr\u00e1nea Beach\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Golf Club<\/strong>\u2019s Lakes Course on the Costa Daurada.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-43291\" src=\"https:\/\/hundreds-wordpress-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/mygolfway\/uploads\/2016\/02\/PGAs-of-Europe-Golfbreaks-Lumine-2.jpg\" alt=\"PGAs-of-Europe-Golfbreaks-Lumine-2\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hundreds-wordpress-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/mygolfway\/uploads\/2016\/02\/PGAs-of-Europe-Golfbreaks-Lumine-2.jpg 640w, https:\/\/hundreds-wordpress-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/mygolfway\/uploads\/2016\/02\/PGAs-of-Europe-Golfbreaks-Lumine-2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt was three challenging days,\u201d<\/em> added <strong>Iv\u00f3 Giner<\/strong>. \u00a0<em>\u201cYesterday we had rain and today a lot of wind but we managed it really well and we played very good golf \u2013 no black dots [bogeys] anywhere.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Scoring on the Lakes was a little more conservative than it had been on the previous few days proving to be a strong test for the 40 PGA professional pairs that made it through the two round cut. \u00a0But the quality and strength of the local PGA Professionals was clear for all to see with seven pairs finishing in the top-ten.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>Piris and\u00a0Giner<\/strong> were well aware that they needed to protect their overnight lead with a good final round, which they were able to do opening with two pars and a birdie at the third. A further birdie at eight along with two more at 10 and 13 put them in pole position with only a few holes remaining.<\/p>\n<p>However, knowing that one of their closest rivals, <strong>Xavier Guzman and\u00a0Juan Sarasti<\/strong>,\u00a0were a few shots back meant the pair were aware that their solid birdies on the 18th were enough to take the Championship.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cFinally this year we have got a tour here in Spain,\u201d<\/em> said<strong> Iv\u00f3 Giner. <\/strong><em>\u201cSo that gives us a lot of confidence to push hard and practice more and I think it\u2019s very good for us to have a tournament here in the Costa Daurada at Lumine, as it is a very challenging course and we enjoyed it very much.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Second place fell to <strong>Xavi Puig and\u00a0Pep Angles<\/strong> (PGA of Spain) who kept their second place position intact throughout the day.\u00a0 Early birdies were cancelled out by two uncharacteristic bogeys in the front nine, but their incoming nine holes proved to be more lucrative.\u00a0 Three birdies helped get them back into the mix, but it was Angles\u2019 crucial eagle on the 18th hole that moved them back in to second at -23 (191):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-43287\" src=\"https:\/\/hundreds-wordpress-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/mygolfway\/uploads\/2016\/02\/PGAs-of-Europe-Golfbreaks-Lumine-3.jpg\" alt=\"PGAs-of-Europe-Golfbreaks-Lumine-3\" width=\"640\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hundreds-wordpress-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/mygolfway\/uploads\/2016\/02\/PGAs-of-Europe-Golfbreaks-Lumine-3.jpg 640w, https:\/\/hundreds-wordpress-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/mygolfway\/uploads\/2016\/02\/PGAs-of-Europe-Golfbreaks-Lumine-3-300x185.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOn the last we thought the leaders were a little further away so we were just trying to get maybe third place or second place,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Pep Angles<\/strong>.\u00a0 <em>\u201cWe hadn\u2019t really made many long putts during the week so it was nice to finish on the last hole with probably the longest putt we made the whole three days!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI think the region here has everything \u2013 it\u2019s by the sea, it has mountains, all the tourism with people coming from other places.
